Based on the three-dimensional CT data, a surgical guide that will help the implant placement to the desired location has been introduced a long time ago. Recently, accelerated digitization of the dental division, development of various oral and model scanner and the dental CT and 3D printer further enhanced the usability of a digital surgical guide.
Implant surgery in the aesthetic area requires more careful diagnosis, treatment planning, surgery, and prosthetic restoration than in posterior area. In order for implants in the maxillary anterior area to be successful, fixtures must be placed precisely at the right site. The purpose of this lecture was to evaluate final outcome of anterior aesthetic implant prostheses after implant placement using a computer-guided surgery system.

Aesthetics has become a trend for both patients and dentist. At the same time, in dental treatments, the dentist must always combine aesthetics with functionality, longevity and bio-compatibility of the materials. The evolution of dental materials in aesthetic dentistry has been exponential in the last years, allowing dentists to create restorations with optical and mechanical properties similar to the natural tooth with the use of layering techniques. While some of these techniques use several different opacities and increments of composites, the clinical reality of most dental clinics is based on simple procedures, easy to perform with suitable aesthetic and longlasting results. Simple layering techniques make the dentist daily work simple and predictable, enabling direct aesthetic and invisible composite resin restorations. Furthermore, the development of new composites for posterior teeth leading to aesthetic results with less polymerization shrinkage allows the dentist to perform restorations in a very simple and fast manner. In this lecture, Dr. Monteiro will present a simplified technique for aesthetic restorations using only one or two opacities of composite resins (Class III, IV, and diastema closure), and discuss the step-by-step clinical procedures, indications and benefits of use composite restorations in anterior and posterior tooth in order to preserve the remaining tooth tissue and achieving a natural and invisible outcome.

Orthodontics is a well-established speciality in Sri Lanka as well as an important aspect of aesthetic dentistry. New technologies in the delivery of orthodontic care are emerging at an alarming rate. Basically, orthodontics is the prevention and correction of occlusal anomalies, which is intimately related to facial growth and development of the dentition. Removable, Functional and Fixed appliances are the main armaments used in daily orthodontic practice.
Cleft lip and palate is the most common developmental dentofacial anomaly that an Orthodontist would encounter. This will demand orthodontic intervention beginning from birth till about the completion of growth. In fact, advances in orthodontics have contributed immensely, to the improvement of the overall aesthetics and functional outcomes of these patients.
Therefore an attempt is made to discuss and illustrate different modern treatment approaches using the cases managed by the author with special emphasis on diagnosis and treatment planning. Further the case selection, timing and management of patients with the help of interceptive measures, removable appliances, functional appliances, fixed appliances and the multidisciplinary approach in order to, obtain optimum aesthetics will be discussed.
Using records of completed cases, covering a wide spectrum of dento-facial aesthetic problems seen among Sri Lankan patients, practitioners will be educated on different aspects of management of patients with aesthetic problems.

Aesthetic dentistry is a field where many want to play in but are not prepared to pay the price. Often times, it is a combination of factors that lead to a smile makeover nightmare. Performing a smile over reconstruction requires us to be diligent in understanding the patients desired expectations. The ability to listen, feel and get in sync with patients goals of an aesthetic smile is crucial to delivering a truly exceptional experience to the patient.
A smile makeover treatment is a multidisciplinary process. Good knowledge of various disciplines of dentistry and working with a great team are crucial to the success of the treatment outcome. But what happens when it does not go right? How do we handle the issues? Could they be avoided? How do you assess your risks and responsibilities?
At the end of the day, we must focus on what we want as our outcome for the smile makeover guided by values we must install in our work systems. This presentation shares the experience of handling smile makeover cases that have gone wrong and how it was salvaged to achieve a mutually acceptable result for both patients and dentist alike.
The lower anterior teeth are the first teeth to erupt in the oral cavity in the deciduous set and in the permanent set. They are the ones that gain the first contact with the upper anterior teeth. Actually, they are the front line protectors of our occlusion, but unfortunately, their role in our oral cavity is usually overlooked. In this lecture, the important roles of the lower anterior teeth will be revisited. When we restore aesthetics, we should not forget to harmonize with function because function follows form. Clinical cases which fail to prioritize the treatment of the lower anterior teeth will be featured so as to bring back the awareness of it to the dental practitioners and laboratory technician.

Interdisciplinary dental therapy (IDT) integrates the knowledge, skills, and experience of all the disciplines of dentistry to maximize treatment result. In our clinic, we approach our treatment by IDT concept and the final goal is to provide our patients with healthy dentition, aesthetic prosthesis, beautiful smile and good function. Periodontal surgery is one of the crucial factors in accomplishing the ideal treatment goal such as the symmetry gingival line by incorporating the root coverage surgery. By performing crown lengthening procedure could create a beautiful smile for patients. The soft tissue augmentation to mask pontic area and implant prosthesis. For full mouth rehabilitation cases, through proper implant's posterior support and good hygiene could establish a healthy environment which is the key to long-term stable treatment result. I would like to share the experiences of our team with the participants.
Implant dentistry has already been established as a predictable treatment modality for replacing missing or non-restorable teeth with excellent clinical success rates. During the last decade, the focus of implant research has shifted from the osseointegration of the implant to its aesthetic integration in the smile. However, the aesthetic rehabilitation of dental implants constitutes a major challenge for dentists. The final aesthetics of an implant restoration in the aesthetic zone is dependent not only upon the appearance of the crown but also equally on the position and appearance of the surrounding gingival tissues. This requires attention to detail in a three-pronged approach that includes treatment planning, surgical management, and restorative management.
In her presentation, the presenter will highlight the ways to optimise pink aesthetics around dental implants, which plays a crucial role in the success of implant therapy.

As the demand for natural and beautiful smiles increases, the demand for anterior aesthetic treatment is increasing. Orthodontic treatment is often necessary for esthetic, healthy and natural treatment outcome. Particularly, in the case of middle-aged patients, minor tooth movement limited to anterior teeth is more effective than comprehensive orthodontic treatment which requires a long-term treatment period. Clinician who is in charge of aesthetic dentistry should have the ability to select a case that can be treated with partial orthodontic treatment and to determine the most effective treatment method.
This presentation gives basic principle for anterior teeth alignment and provides flowcharts to decide appropriate treatment options for each case.
Key words: minor tooth movement; partial orthodontic treatment; anterior teeth alignment

An essential yet overlooked part in dentistry is the role of diagnostic wax-up. A dental diagnostic wax-up is a planning procedure utilised by the restorative dentist, prosthodontist, periodontist and orthodontist to aid in communication and provide valuable information to the patient, dental technicians and other dental specialists.
Without the help of diagnostic wax-up, certain dental procedures especially smile transformation would be difficult to visualise. It acts as a blueprint for final restorations and creates an aesthetically pleasing outcome. Similar to an engineer or an architect, dentists will not be able to build a successful final product without a working model and visualisation of the treatment plan. This presentation will highlight the overall importance of diagnostic wax-up, helping the everyday practice to be more comprehensive and enhance quality. Emphasis will also be on how diagnostic wax-up can help develop a unique and complete treatment plan for certain conditions and cases, as well as improving communication between patient, dentists and technicians.
Natural tooth always forms an individual complex structure and optical properties that create complex colour differentiation. Tooth colour analysis is still one of the most difficult task in aesthetic area. To achieve an aesthetically pleasing result from our direct composite we need to learn about natural tooth structure and composite system that we use. The eLAB protocol original by S.Hein, P.Bazos, and J.Tapia allows for direct and objective colour comparison between the natural tooth and our composite or ceramic material. Combination between eLAB and custom_eyes, an innovative bi-laminar composite custom shade guide system based on the histo-anatomical architecture of natural teeth, provides an easy to use and powerful tools for choosing the right composite masses for direct restorations in aesthetic area.
